IN211 Thanks Supporters

Arthur Jordan Foundation Adds to Its Support

The Trustees of the Arthur Jordan Foundation have, once again, shown their support of IN211.  As reported in our December 2009 newsletter, the Foundation had provided a special grant of $5,000 in November.  Last month, the Foundation increased its commitment by providing an addition grant of $2,500.  These funds will be used to help support 2-1-1 in the greater Indianapolis area.

The Foundation operates with a board of seven trustees selected from the Indianapolis community.  Historically the Foundation has supported the President Benjamin Harrison Home as well as projects in the fields of fine arts and higher education.  By supporting 2-1-1, the Foundation is helping to build a platform of community improvement from which the arts and higher education may flourish.  IN211 cherishes its relationship with the Arthur Jordan Foundation and thanks its trustees for their continued support.

NiSource Foundation Gives IN211 a Special Grant

NISource

NiSource Inc. based in Merrillville, Ind., is a Fortune 500 company engaged in virtually all phases of the natural gas business, as well as electric generation, transmission and distribution.  At NiSource’s Annual Stockholder Meeting, Bob Skaggs, President and CEO, presented a special grant of $20,000 to IN211.

"NiSource's local operating companies and employees have long been a strong, positive force in the communities where we operate and provide service," Skaggs noted. "During these difficult times, we felt it was more important than ever to provide strong corporate-wide support. Through the NiSource Supporting Those in Need campaign, we are focusing and leveraging our various giving channels to have an even greater impact in the community."

The funds will be used to help provide 24/7/365 access to 2-1-1 in the northern third of the state where most of NiSource’s Indiana customers are located.  With the high rate of unemployment and uncertain economic conditions, more and more Hoosiers are relying on 2-1-1 for information and referral for all kinds of human services.   Indiana 211 Partnership thanks NiSource for its generosity and caring corporate spirit.

Continued Support from Vectren

Vectren

The Vectren Foundation presented IN211 with a grant in the amount of $10,000, representing the second of three installments of a three year, $30,000 grant. Vectren is an energy company headquartered in Evansville, Indiana that provides electricity to Hoosiers in southwestern Indiana and natural gas nearly 700,000 customers in central and southern Indiana. The Vectren Foundation vision acknowledges that the economic health of Hoosier communities is integral and vital to Vectren’s ability to prosper and grow. The purpose of the Foundation is to contribute to the well being of the communities in which Vectren employees live and work.  The Foundation focuses its community involvement on developing creative solutions to meeting community needs. One of those creative solutions is to assist IN211 in helping those in need in these communities.  IN211 Partnership is grateful for Vectren’s continued support and for their commitment to improving our communities.

Help With Utilities in Big Need

Centers Received over 24,000 Calls for Utility Assistance. 14.5% of Total Calls.

From November 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010, the Indiana 211 Centers received over 24,000 calls for utility assistance. That constituted 14.5% of our total calls for that time period. Over 2,500 of those calls were classified as 'unmet needs' where no referrals were available to meet an inquirer's accessed needs. The need was probably not met in full on most of the remaining 21,500 calls.

Retreat – As In Move Forward!

The IN211 Board and the Roundtable (representatives of the IN211 Centers) enjoyed a full day retreat on strategic planning.  No, really, it was enjoyable and lots of FUN!  And very productive. After considerable brainstorming, strategic priorities were determined and Action Teams were formed.  All attendees volunteered to be on one of four Action Teams: Communications, Technology, Resource Development and Center Service Quality. So great was the enthusiasm that, within a day of the retreat, two of the Action Teams were already setting up meeting schedules.  If you have an interest in being involved on one of the Action Teams, please contact John Krom at 317-496-2076.
